3 Free Ways to Improve your Health

3 Free Ways to Improve your Health,

Including Immunity and Mental Clarity

  1. Get Better Sleep

    1. Darkness - block out all light from your bedroom. Consider light blocking curtains and putting a towel under your door, if necessary.

    2. Silence - you may need to use ear plugs, unless you can make your bedroom truly silent. Rugs, tapestries, curtains, and pillows help dampen sound, but modern cities tend to be loud and most buildings don’t have any sound proofing in their walls.

    3. Limit EM pollution from WiFi and Mobile Devices. Turn off your WiFi and turn your phone on airplane mode before bed. You will sleep much more deeply with less radio & microwaves beaming data through your body. If you are very sensitive, you may want to consider lining your bedding with silver-lined faraday fabric or getting EMF blocking, faraday curtains or bed covering.

    4. Limit Blue Light Exposure after dusk. Most mobile devices have a night mode option, where the screen colors shift to warmer tones after dark, so that you can be exposed to less blue light. Consider reading a paper book or doing something creative before bed. Make sure that any lights that you use after dusk have a warmer light spectrum and are not at the high-temperature blue end of the spectrum.

2. Drink Better Water

    1. Consider Gathering Spring Water

      1. Find a Spring near you on FindaSpring.com

      2. Containers: glass, stainless steel, copper, or BPA free plastic

    2. Purified Water + Minerals

      1. Natural Sea Salt is a great option for improving mineral content of filtered or Reverse Osmosis purified water. Only add a small pinch per gallon, so that you don’t consume too much sodium.

      2. Concentrace Minerals are a low sodium option of high quality trace minerals from the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

      3. Reverse Osmosis purified water is available from machines at many health food stores as well as some Fred Meyer and Walmart locations among others.

      4. Home water filters can be a good option, but make sure that whatever filter you use removes chlorine, fluorine, heavy metals, and organic compounds.

    3. Quantity: One decent rule of thumb for water consumption is to drink 1/2 your body weight (lbs->oz) daily. I would recommend adding extra water for exercise (at least 32oz), especially when you break a sweat. It may take time to acclimate to increased water consumption, but you will begin to feel better and better as your body detoxes and its tissues become better hydrated.

3. Take more Deep Breaths

    1. Counting Breaths (1-10) can be a helpful way to quiet the mind. It is a common practice to count 1 though 10 repeatedly and silently in your mind, while breathing quietly and slowly.

    2. Intentionally slow breathing can be a way to calm the body and mind, while improving oxygen uptake. You can challenge yourself to see how long and quiet each inhale and exhale can become.

    3. Another helpful focus for deep breathing can be these 4 steps: full exhale, stop for a few seconds, full inhale, stop for a few seconds, then repeat. If you combine all three of these techniques, you are sure to enjoy some mental and physical relaxation.
